That Leaked Video Is Likely to Hurt A Dog’s Purpose at the Box Office

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Marketers would describe “A Dog’s Purpose” as a film with “four-quadrant” appeal, meaning it’s likely to draw moviegoers of both genders, young and old. Based on a bestselling book and told from a dog’s perspective, it’s a feel-good story for animal lovers of all kinds.
Which is why a video leaked last week of a frightened dog apparently forced into rushing water during the making of the film is so damaging to its opening box-office prospects this weekend : It alienates, even offends, its very audience.
“Sometimes a controversy can help you, but this isn’t one of those cases,” said Gitesh Pandya, editor of boxofficeguru.com. “As far as videos that can come out for your film, this is definitely not the one you want if you’re the filmmakers, right before the movie opens.”
Since the video surfaced Jan. 18 on TMZ.com and quickly went viral, fallout has been extensive, including:
— People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has called for a boycott of “A Dog’s Purpos..

Watch Taylor Swift and Zayn’s New Music Video For I Don’t Wanna Live Forever

At long last, Taylor Swift is back. That is, the pop star and R&B singer Zayn finally released the video for their new jam “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” off the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack, which the duo surprise-dropped in December. In true Swift-ian fashion, it’s a stylized and narratively dramatic video to match the sultry tune. She’s been teasing it on Twitter and Instagram for weeks.
This marks Swift’s return to video; her last release was for “Out of the Woods” more than a year ago, from her 1989 album. The notoriously consistent musician has laid low in recent months, contributing writing credits to a number of songs for other artists, but otherwise keeping out of the limelight.

Eden Hasson, 10, surfs near what is believed to be a shark at Samurai Beach in Port Stephens, Australia. James Cook University shark researcher Andrew Chin says the photographed shark is possibly a small great white.
You can almost hear the “Jaws” music while looking at the photo.
Chris Hasson’s 10-year-old son Eden was surfing Tuesday when a shark appeared lurking beneath the wave, a moment Hasson caught on camera.
“It was a chance encounter, a one in a million photo,” Hasson said.
Hasson and some others were on the beach at Samurai Beach in the Australian town of Port Stephens. As he was taking pictures, he saw something out of the corner of his eye as his son was about to ride a wave.
Hasson then took a series of shots, and when he went back to look at them, sure enough he saw the shark.
“I was very concerned,” he said, so he called to his son and the other surfers to come ashore.
Then he showed them the shot, which they loved.
“Everyone was high-fiving after they saw the ph..
