Kyle Freeland shines on mound, Charlie Blackmon, Trevor Story stay hot in win over Indians

Rockies 10, Indians 2, at Salt River Fields

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The weather turned a bit cooler in the desert Wednesday, but left-hander Kyle Freeland kept the heat on in his pursuit for a spot in the starting rotation. Charlie Blackmon and Trevor Story, meanwhile, continued swinging hot bats in the Rockies’ victory.

For starters: Freeland allowed just one run on four hits, struck out five and walked one. His cutter/slider was an especially effective put-away pitch. He threw 75 pitches, 45 for strikes.

“I got my slurve down in the zone today, and my cutter/slider worked well today, too.” Freeland said. “They were both pitches I felt like I could pull out and use them whenever I needed them.”

Freeland also clobbered a two-run single to right in the first inning.
