Facebook activates Safety Check after Westminster Bridge attack leaves several injured

Facebook has activated its ‘Safety Check’ tool for the Westminster Bridge attack – allowing friends to see if people are affected.

Moment MPs were told about the shooting outside Parliament

The tool allows Facebook users in the area to tell friends they are safe automatically, and users are offered a list of friends who might be in the area.

The tool has previously been used during events such as the Orlando shootings and Paris attacks.

The tool was activated after a policeman was stabbed and his apparent attacker shot by officers in a major security incident at the Houses of Parliament.
